Traditional cleaning and disinfecting cannot reach and kill bacteria effectively, with areas such as chillers and delivery vehicles presenting greater challenges due to food proximity. Bacteria multiply so quickly (one to 17 million in eight hours) that they present a constant battle with some cleaning doing more to spread the bacteria, than clean it up.
AIRsteril utilises indirect UV-C which is enclosed within a chamber so there is no risk to personnel or the environment. The Ultimate 4 allows the control of bacteria and VOCs more efficiently than ever before. All of this is achieved with a low energy consumption of only 80 watts per unit. The custom designed baffle system (patent pending) ensures that contaminated air processed through the unit achieves optimum dwell time in the purifying chamber. As the processed air leaves the unit it becomes an efficient disinfecting agent, targeting pathogens both in the air and on surfaces, reaching areas where traditional disinfection is not possible.

Beef trials from slaughter to retail packaging
standards within slaughter processing plants in the European Union
are currently governed by Commission Regulation (EC) 2073/2005,
which describes detailed performance criteria at specific stages of the procedure (following carcass dressing) for total viable counts (TVC), Enterobacteria (EB) and
Salmonella spp. In this study, 18 carcasses from a beef slaughter plant were
sampled by swabbing surfaces to examine the effects of AIRsteril on
contamination levels after slaughter, after chilling for 48 hours,
and after transport (18 hours) to the boning plant. Nine beef carcasses entered
a chiller containing AIRsteril technology (sample 1) and nine
entered an untreated identical chiller (sample 2). During
refrigerated transport only samples 1 were swabbed.
There were significant reductions in TVC for all carcasses after chilling in the treated chiller. However, there was no marked difference in TVC levels on carcasses within the untreated chiller. During transport TVC levels reduced further.
Results show that contamination can be significantly reduced at various steps in the process and highlight the importance of monitoring locations other than those required by legislation within the process. Monitoring can be used to establish baseline levels for high-risk stages specific to each plant and to assess the effectiveness of additional interventions. AIRsteril technology can have a beneficial effect on spoilage bacteria on food throughout the food chain. Our technology is effective on airborne and surface bacteria and is safe to use in occupied areas.
